You can find lots of tips on the Detox Challenge. After a few days in which you relieve your body and prepare it for the elimination of toxins, you let go of toxins and ballast on the cleansing day. On this day, make sure you stay at home or in a place where you feel comfortable and can go to the toilet. The urge to defecate can be very intense, especially during the morning. We generally recommend that you take a relaxed approach to the day. Quiet music and meditation are good companions during the cleansing process. On the other hand, you should avoid sleeping or talking too much.
Breakfast and purging
No breakfast is actually planned on the cleansing day. However, if you tend to have a particularly weak circulation, you can prepare yourself a light Ayurvedic breakfast. Afterwards or after getting up, it is time for your "laxative drink". You can choose the one that suits you and your body best from the following options.
For sensitive digestion
- Option 1: Drink a cup of senna leaf tea (laxative tea) at 7am, 9am and 11am, preferably steeped for 15 to 20 minutes beforehand.
- Variant 2: At 7.30 am, add two tablespoons of psyllium husks to 100 ml of naturally cloudy or freshly squeezed apple juice and leave the mixture to swell for 30 minutes. You can have the drink at 8 o'clock.
With normal digestion
- You weigh between 45 and 65 kg: Mix 60 ml of castor oil with ¼ teaspoon of Himalayan salt and a tablespoon of lemon. Drink the mixture.
- You weigh more than 65 kg: Mix 80 ml of castor oil with ¼ teaspoon of Himalayan salt and a tablespoon of lemon. Drink the mixture
Liver compress
After taking your laxative drink for the first time, we recommend a liver compress. To do this, fill a hot water bottle with warm water. You will also need a warm, damp large towel. Carefully place the right side of your body on the hot water bottle so that it is under your right ribcage. This is where the liver is located. Now wrap the towel around you and rest for about 20 minutes.
Drinking
During the morning, you should drink up to 1.5 liters of boiled water in sips. We recommend that you drink a cup of warm water every quarter of an hour.
Lunch and dinner
For lunch and dinner, you can prepare fresh, easily digestible dishes from Ayurvedic cuisine.
Digestive movement
Gentle movement can help to stimulate your digestion. We have put together three asanas that you can do one after the other whenever you feel like it:
- Side bend: Stand hip-width apart on your yoga mat and stretch your arms up over your head. Your palms should be facing each other. Inhale and bend to the right as you exhale. Maintain abdominal tension. As you inhale, straighten up again and with the next exhalation, bend to the left. Stretch to both sides 8 times in this way.
- Turn to the side: Stand on your mat again with your feet hip-width apart and raise your arms up to shoulder height. Now bend your left arm so that your thumb touches your collarbone. Look to the right and turn your upper body as far to the right as you can with the next exhalation. Return with the next inhalation and repeat on the left side. Repeat this asana a total of 4 times.
- Twisting pose: Sit on your yoga mat with your legs straight so that you can feel your sitting bones on the floor. Place your right leg over your left leg, with your foot approximately level with your knee. Hug your right knee with your left arm and straighten up. Inhale and stretch your right arm upwards. As you exhale, turn to the right side and place your hand behind you. Hold this position for a few breaths and then switch sides.
Drain and strengthen
When the toxins are dissolved and excreted from your body, you will have to go to the toilet again and again. It usually takes two to three hours for something to happen in the bowel. Depending on when you took your laxative drink, this process can last until 2 or 3 pm. This can be exhausting under certain circumstances and can also have a mental impact. Emotional fluctuations or negative feelings can always occur when blockages are released. Breathing exercises and mediation are a good support in these moments. Detoxing is an emotional process.
