Are you familiar with Kneipp? Especially in spas, but also in nature, you can always find people wading through the cool water like storks - for the sake of their health. Kneipp or a Kneipp cure can contribute to a strong and active immune system. Learn more about the fruitful interaction of European Ayurveda® and Kneipp therapy.
A Kneipp cure is the slow wading in water of different temperatures. Kneipp is said to have a positive effect on the circulation. It alleviates discomfort from varicose veins, helps with respiratory diseases and supports detoxification. This makes this process particularly well suited for combination with an EA® Detox cure. Water therapy, however, is only one of several possible applications. Kneipp medicine goes back to the German Catholic priest Sebastian Anton Kneipp (1821-1897). The scholar suffered from respiratory diseases for a long time. Hydrotherapy - applications of cold water baths - improved his health. Thus, the priest developed a series of therapeutic and nutritional tips to strengthen the immune system.
The basic pillars of Kneipp therapy
-
- Water therapy: This includes cool water showers, but also water wraps around the calves.
-
- Nutrition: a balanced whole food diet is the main focus. Little meat, lots of vegetables and whole grains are the main components.
-
- Free movement: Kneipp felt it was important for people to move as freely as possible. That is why Kneipp medicine recommends light, airy clothing during sports sessions and walking barefoot whenever possible. This strengthens the immune system and supports balance.
-
- Phytotherapy: this means the use of medicinal herbs. In Kneipp medicine, much emphasis is placed on the power and energy of nature.
-
- Order therapy: a clear mind, a routine order of life and a health-conscious attitude to life are the basis for order therapy according to Kneipp.
What a Kneipp cure has to do with European Ayurveda®.
If you have been studying European Ayurveda® for a while, you will notice that Kneipp medicine and our philosophy have some parallels. In European Ayurveda® the focus is also on human health using natural remedies. We trust in the Indian healing teachings, but also take the knowledge of western orthodox medicine and complementary medicine. This is, for example, a fixed component of our Ayurveda PLUS cures.
Sufficient exercise, walking barefoot and the use of hot and cold water are things that are also part of the philosophy of European Ayurveda®. In our philosophy the balance of body, mind and soul is important - similar to what it was for Sebastian Kneipp. We take the millennia-old knowledge of Ayurveda and the Far Eastern healing arts along with the European thought teachings to stay strong, healthy and full of energy.
Also in nutrition, Kneipp's cure and the philosophy of European Ayurveda® have partly similar aspects. In addition to medicinal herbs and their effects, we try to keep the bioenergies in balance with different herbs, spices and vegetarian dishes. By the way, you can find excellent recipes for this in our book "The 7-Day Panchakarma Cure at Home".
