Even though the days are getting noticeably cooler, the month still gives us many beautiful sunny days. But do you sometimes have the feeling that your heart is somehow heavy? Do you feel uncomfortable in your own skin? It could well be that the autumn blues have got you a little bit.
Why we become melancholic
Autumn is a beautiful season with its colourful forests and cooler temperatures. And even if it often warms the heart with many sunny days, weather caprices, wet and cold rainy days and less sunlight can affect your mood. You lack drive, often feel listless, irritable and restless inside.
In autumn, the Vata dosha is very active. The bioenergy of change is attributed to the elements of air and ether and is characterised by the qualities of rough, dry, cool and agile. When Vata is in balance, you feel it through a lot of power, creativity and initiative. Just as our body, mind and soul are influenced by the doshas, nature is also subject to these forces. The trees change colour, the temperatures drop, the weather is very changeable: the epitome of Vata!
Towards the end of autumn we also feel the energies of Kapha: wet, cool, stable and heavy. Kapha dosha in itself stands for stability and calm. If there is an excess, it can quickly lead to demotivation, resignation and listlessness on a mental and emotional level. Among other things, a lack of light is responsible for this. The shorter days and the lack of sunlight take their toll on our soul: we become depressed and literally feel the autumn blues.
Meditations for a stable Tridosha
To keep your mind and soul in harmony, mediations and mental exercises help. They cleanse your bioenergies and help them to find their balance again.
A good first meditation exercise is the sun meditation. Especially on dark days, your thoughts and chakras are flooded with light. You can literally feel how your empty batteries are recharged. You can find detailed instructions here.
Forest bathing in nature or walking meditation are other ways to counteract melancholic thoughts.
Simple meditations that clear your thoughts can also help you fight the autumn blues. The following exercise is helpful:
Sit upright on a chair. Your back does not touch the backrest. Both legs touch the floor with the feet. If possible, you are barefoot. Close your eyes.
Touch your belly below the navel with both palms. Here is your solar plexus, a point from which the energies radiate into your whole body.
Breathe in deeply. Make sure that you inhale the air deeply into the abdomen. Feel with your hands how the abdominal wall rises and then lowers again.
Try to breathe in and out slowly and evenly.
Now imagine yourself sitting in a sphere that protects you from all negative influences. This sphere consists of light and energy and is built around you like a protective cage. Only positive energies and moods can reach you and flow through your body.
Your body absorbs the energies. You see how they flow through your arms and legs and finally reach your head. You feel how blockages in your mindset dissolve in this light.
Say the following affirmations inwardly or aloud. They help you to consolidate your purified mindset:
"I feel the warmth inside me."
"Every day is full of options"
"I am full of energy and light."
"My health, mind and soul are clear and strong."
You can also think of other positive phrases that help you to cleanse your inner self.
Now slowly open your eyes again and return to your Now.
Finding new goals together
Sometimes it is difficult to free yourself from negative thoughts and influences. If you notice that you are no longer making progress in your life on your own, you should seek help. Especially if you have the feeling that it is more than just the autumn blues that are gripping your thoughts, talking and addressing the problems is the best way.
