Do you know this? There are nights when you just can't get any rest and hardly sleep. Many people then blame the moon. Supposedly, sleep is not too good, especially during a full moon. Whether the human sleep rhythm is dependent on the lunar cycle is not completely clear. However, it is undisputed that the earth's satellite influences nature. For example, the tides of the sea change with the phase of the moon, and animal and plant species also adjust their reproductive cycle according to the position of the moon. In European Ayurveda, we also believe that the moon influences our bioenergies.
The phases of the moon and the bioenergies
The cycle of the moon can be divided into four phases: New Moon, Waxing Moon, Full Moon and Waning Moon. A complete cycle lasts about 28 days.
Each phase affects the three bio-energies Vata, Pitta and Kapha differently. Accordingly, you should use the different times to keep body, mind and soul in balance.
New moon
The moon is not visible in the sky. This time is considered a phase of regeneration and new beginnings. Especially the Vata dosha is very active now. You feel slightly stressed, are restless and full of energy. Take care of yourself and don't do too strenuous workouts. A detox cure helps you to let go of old ballast and to focus on new and positive things in your life.
Waxing Moon
Slowly a crescent appears in the sky, growing larger and rounder with each passing day. Vata unfolds in its full effect and is slowly replaced by Kapha. Use these weeks especially for personal projects. For the creative power within you now shows its powerful side. You can manifest new goals in your journal, but also do more sports. It is also easier for you to lose weight during this period.
Full moon
The moon continues to increase until we can see the full moon in the sky. The full moon has a particularly strong effect on the dosha. Your work and your actions become more routine and structured. Yoga and meditations help you to keep your inner balance during these days. Do you feel particularly well during a full moon? That's no wonder, because inner contentment grows through the influence of Kapha. Women often ovulate during this phase.
Waning Moon
After a few days, the full moon becomes smaller again and turns back into a crescent. The effect of Kapha slowly gives way to the bio-energy Pitta. The "fire dosha" gives us energy to push forward with projects and goals. Be careful not to overextend yourself and end up overwhelmed. At this time we tend to tackle a lot, but also burn out quickly. Yoga and meditation sessions help you to keep calm. Allow yourself enough breaks and make sure you eat a balanced diet.
Using the phases of the moon in everyday life
You see, the moon can have a strong influence on bioenergies. The best thing you can do is to organise your everyday life with the lunar cycle and its energies. Large projects succeed better in the waning moon, creative tasks can be managed very well in the waxing moon. Make sure you have a good work-life balance and allow yourself breaks. In European Ayurveda we believe that everything in nature and in the cosmos is connected. This includes you. Use these energies so that you feel really well.
