Ayurvedic beauty tips for summer

Beauty tips according to Ayurveda

As much as we love the hot season, it takes its toll on us both inside and out. Skin and hair are exposed to the blazing sunlight. We are tormented by hot flushes and our digestion often becomes sluggish. For this reason, preventive measures are particularly important in summer. With the following beauty tips according to Ayurveda, you can consciously protect yourself, counteract the summer dangers and care for your beauty.

Strengthen the UV protection of your skin

You will realise how aggressive the sun can be at the latest after a painful and unhealthy sunburn. Even if we would prefer to be kissed by the sun around the clock, we must also be aware that too much of it accelerates the ageing process. The risk of skin cancer also increases. In addition to conventional sun protection products, you can also promote the natural UV protection of your own skin. Beauty tip: Foods such as sweet potatoes, carrots, apricots, spinach, broccoli and pumpkin contain beta-carotene and lycopene. These can even promote the regeneration of sun-damaged skin.

Melons reduce your pitta dosha
Melons balance an excess of pitta and have a cooling effect

Summer time is Pitta time

According to Ayurvedic teachings, the Pitta dosha automatically increases in summer. If you consider that the element of fire is dominant in Pitta anyway, this can lead to heat in the broadest sense if there is an excess. This also includes aggressive behaviour, fits of rage, overheating of the body up to blushing and irritation of the skin. But you can counteract this very well. The best way is to take pitta-reducing measures, such as a pitta-reducing diet:

How to reduce your Pitta dosha with Ayurvedic nutrition

  • Sour, salty and spicy foods and spices favour pitta. This automatically leads to heating of the body. Instead, choose foods with sweet and bitter flavours. These promote natural cooling from within.
  • Juicy-sweet fruits like watermelon or honeydew melon as well as pears and green vegetables like cucumbers, lettuce and courgette are perfect for reducing your pitta-dosha. They are also delicious and refreshing in taste.
  • Because the metabolism often works more slowly in summer and affects digestion, drinking enough is very important. Beauty tip: In addition to clear water, a pitta tea is also very suitable. It is best with pitta-reducing ingredients such as peppermint, ginger, fennel, coriander, jasmine and rose blossoms, lavender, hibiscus or liquorice roots. You can find this tea and spice blend in our online shop. By the way, all these ingredients can also be integrated into dishes, as they have cooling properties.

Beauty tip: how to cook in a "skin-friendly" way

This may sound strange, but it makes sense according to Ayurveda. Because anything that is out of balance in your body will eventually become noticeable on the outside. Redness or other irritations on the skin become visible. For this reason, it can be helpful to integrate digestion-stimulating and cooling spices into your diet. A beauty tip for you: Fry equal amounts of turmeric, coriander, fennel and cumin in some ghee to add to vegetables and grains. This way, your metabolism will be boosted and behave normally and healthily. You will see, your skin will feel better immediately.

Beauty tip: Ayurvedic toner made by yourself

It happens quickly. You fall asleep while sunbathing. Or you underestimate the effect of the sun due to a pleasantly cool breeze. The result is usually an unsightly sunburn. You can support the regeneration of damaged skin with a simple homemade toner. Simply mix rose water, cucumber water and aloe vera gel and apply directly to the skin. With the vegan body oil "Sun and Shade" you can also provide your body with sufficient moisture before, during and after sunbathing. It contains purely plant-based sun protection factors that counteract the drying of the skin. Available in our online shop.
