Ayurveda against neurodermatitis

Severe itching and inflamed skin: People with atopic dermatitis know these symptoms only too well. Although the so-called atopic dermatitis is quite persistent, it can be soothed very well and above all sustainably with Ayurvedic treatment methods. You can find out how this works and what Panchakarma cures actually are here.

Healing neurodermatitis from within: Ayurveda for skin problems

Atopic dermatitis is an inflammatory skin disease associated with severe itching. Unfortunately, scratching only makes the condition worse. Neurodermatitis is also a chronic disease, which means that it can always return.

How does neurodermatitis develop?

Neurodermatitis appears in most sufferers before the age of 5. In order to alleviate the unpleasant symptoms as quickly as possible, care products with cortisone are often used. However, only the noticeable symptoms can be treated in this way - not the root of the problem.

The Ayurvedic approach takes a completely different approach: An imbalance of the doshas Vata and Kapha is seen as the cause of neurodermatitis. More specifically, the nutrient juice (Rasa Dhatu) and the blood (Rakta Dhatu) are out of balance.

If emotional stress is added to this, these are the best conditions for the skin disease. The stress manifests itself in dry skin, while the metabolism is disturbed by too much ama. As a result, the body sees no other way out than to communicate via skin irritations that it is all getting too much.

How does Ayurveda help with neurodermatitis?

So what Ayurvedic measures are there to gently and effectively respond to this call for help from the body? Theoretically, it is quite simple: On the one hand, blood and digestion must be brought back into balance. On the other hand, relaxation techniques help to reduce stress. And it is precisely this that is considered to be the main trigger for neurodermatitis attacks.

Possibilities of Ayurveda treatment for neurodermatitis

From an Ayurvedic point of view, the skin is a mirror of the harmony between body and mind. To restore this harmony in skin diseases (Kushtha), Ayurvedic teachings rely on gentle methods. From diet to soothing teas to oil treatments: There are many ways to do something good for the body with natural remedies.

Ayurvedic tips on nutrition for neurodermatitis

Salads, legumes and other alkaline-forming foods are ideal for neurodermatitis

Neurodermatitis is a clear sign of stress. This makes it all the more important for sufferers to adopt a stress-reducing diet. In concrete terms, this means: alcohol, sugar, wheat products, meat and fish, as well as all sour-tasting foods, but also fast food and hot spices cause the body to become very agitated. Acids are formed and the intestines are stressed.

If you have neurodermatitis, you should therefore definitely avoid the food groups just mentioned. Instead, try to eat mainly light, warm dishes that are prepared gently. Bitter, fresh salads such as dandelion or endive are ideal. Cooked pulses, (pseudo) grains such as quinoa or oats and digestive spices are also good.

To give your body enough rest, we also recommend spreading your meals evenly throughout the day. You should allow 4-6 hours between meals. This gives the body plenty of time to digest. And the easier it is for the digestive fire, the more relief this ultimately means for irritated skin.

Ayurveda tea against neurodermatitis

It is no secret that the body needs plenty of fluids throughout the day. With neurodermatitis, it can be helpful in this regard to drink 1-2 cups of tea made from special herbs every day. Such an Ayurvedic tea is supposed to flush the toxins out of the body and inhibit inflammation. This can reduce itching and improve the skin's appearance.

From an Ayurvedic point of view, however, it does not really make sense to recommend a specific tea. Because which mixture helps best depends on one's own symptoms. Basically, St. John's wort, dandelion, burdock root or pansy herb, among others, are suitable for the tea mixture.

However, the following applies to neurodermatitis therapy with herbal teas: Listen to your body. The tea should have a draining effect so that you can get rid of toxins. However, this effect should not last longer than 1-2 days. If this is the case, it is better not to continue drinking the tea.

So how can you find out which tea will help you? We would recommend that you seek advice from an Ayurveda expert. This is the quickest way to find your ideal blend and you don't have to try out several variants first.

Ayurvedic oil against neurodermatitis

Oil plays a doubly important role in the Ayurvedic treatment of neurodermatitis. On the one hand, it is important that you eat only a few high-quality fat sources in the form of oils that contain omega-3 fatty acids. Olive and coconut oil, for example, are good choices.

On the other hand, various oils are used for external treatments of the stressed skin. Evening primrose oil, nim oil, almond oil and more: Valuable liquids like these are individually adapted to the skin and incorporated with extensive massages.

This is not only relaxing and stress-reducing, it also provides the skin with nourishing substances. The oil treatment is most effective when it takes place within the framework of an Ayurvedic treatment specially adapted to the individual case.

Panchakarma: Ayurvedic cure for neurodermatitis

A Panchakarma cure is suitable for both young people and adults. It is a long-term treatment that consists of various components. Let's take a look at what these are and how you can imagine Panchakarma.

What is Panchakarma?

The term Panchakarma is composed of "five"(pancha) and "actions"(karman). A panchakarma cure is therefore often referred to as a so-called fivefold purification cure. It combines external and internal treatments that are implemented over a longer period of time.

It is very important to note that there is no such thing as a panchakarma cure: Each therapy is tailored to theindividual problems. Because as the Ayurveda teachings know, every person is unique - no matter if it is about mind or body!

How does the Ayurveda cure proceed?

A Panchakarma cure always begins with a detailed diagnosis, in the form of an examination of the pulse, skin and sensory organs. Among other things, the Ayurveda expert palpates the skin, feels the pulse and takes a close look at the eyes, lips and tongue.

As soon as the diagnosis has been made, the internal and external preparation for the elimination of toxins can begin. This is done in a variety of ways: taking herbal preparations to strengthen the immune system can be as much a part of a Panchakarma treatment as cleansing the intestines, nasal rinses or oil massages (Abhyanga).

Part of the Panchakarma cure is also the individually prepared diet plan. In order for the elimination of toxins to have a long-term effect, it is of course important to create better conditions afterwards.

This also means that the panchakarma treatment of neurodermatitis is not a one-time affair, but in a way the impetus to relearn old habits. It may take some discipline to get used to a new diet and to integrate relaxation techniques into everyday life. In the long run, however, it pays off to implement the newly acquired knowledge every day anew.

Whether it's a Panchakarma cure or "just" an adjustment of your dietary habits, regular oil massages or similar Ayurvedic measures: By bringing your doshas back into balance, you care for your skin from the inside, so to speak, so that itching and inflammation finally disappear - and permanently!
